HVLA aka SPINAL MANIPULATION
👉🏼 It ain’t as fancy as it sounds but is a technique that requires careful training & comprehensive knowledge of anatomy & physiology, and when & where it’s safe and appropriate to use. Osteopaths have at least 4 yrs undergrad training to learn this stuff. Don’t let your dad do this! 🤣
👌🏼When performed by a qualified clinician, this technique employs a rapid & specific low velocity force to a joint, typically spinal joints but can also be applied to other joints. To restore normal movement in the joint.
👀👂The popping or cracking sound you hear aren’t the bones cracking! 😆 it’s simply gas bubbles that are released from the fluid within the joint at the time of the manipulation.
✅ We use this as part of a number of intervention addressing injuries, activation issues and pain. We rarely use this as a stand alone treatment. Advanced soft tissue techniques, dry needling, mobility work and follow up rehab exercises & gym based training programs compliment the ‘cracking & popping’. There’s a lot more to this injury rehab shizzle than ‘massage’. 😉 Thanks @brooks1992
