Up the Side
I call myself an all-around photographer, meaning that I can take high quality pictures in every major category. I realized a few months ago that my Flickr page does not really reflect this, so I decided to post an old picture from my high school days. I was 17 when I took this picture. It was a gray, overcast day.
I love action photography. The challenge of getting good pictures despite major lens limitations is unique. The work is intense, and there were so many disappointments at first.
Photography is not just about equipment, though good equipment certainly helps a great deal. Photography is also about information, skill, and access.
Not only did I have to have the reflexes and other skills to take this picture, I also had to know all the plays intimately. I went to my team's practice just to study my team's playbook. It was not coincidence that I was on that side of the field.
