Special:
- "TR" stands for Triumph Roadster.
- The structure of the TR6 was developed/restyled by Wilhelm Karmann GmbH (Karmann) in Osnabrück (Germany). They were instructed to use as many as possible TR5 bodyworks parts.
- The new body, therefore, came on a TR5 chassis, so only the nose and "tail" are changed.
- The American models came with a "less powerful" engine with only 2 carburetors / 104 bhp (those well known regulations ☺).
- It has a four-speed manual transmission, Lucas fuel injection system on the European models (called PI = Petrol Injection), rear wheel drive, disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
- The body was bolted onto a frame instead of the two being integrated into a unibody structure.
- The optional electrically switched overdrive could operate on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears on early models and 3rd and 4th on later models because of constant gearbox failures in 2nd at high revs.
- A detachable hardtop was optional (requiring two people to fit it ☺), like a rear anti-roll bar and a limited slip differential.
- The TR6 was meant for export. Of the 94,619 TR6s produced, 86,249 were exported; only 8,370 were sold in the UK.
- It became Triumph's best-selling vehicle in history.
