Wheel Gymnastics - A sport that turns the world upside down
Wheel Gymnastics represents a unique symbiosis of acrobatics, agility and sensitivity.
It is a sport that literally turns the world upside down.
The founder of the gymnastics wheel, a German called Otto Feick, took out an official patent on it in 1925.
The name "Rhönrad" is supposed to have reminded the founder of his home in the Rhön region of Bavaria, Germany.
Since then, this wonderful sport has spread across the world and is practised with enthusiasm in more than 500 clubs.
In 1995 the International Wheel Gymnastics Federation (IRV) was founded in Basel, Switzerland.
The IRV organises the World Championships and World Team Cup that are held every two years.
Wheel gymnasts from almost 20 countries took part at the last World Championships, and the numbers are steadily increasing.
There are three individual disciplines in competitive wheel gymnastics: Straight-line, Spiral and Vault.
In recent years, we have also seen the emergence of the innovative, modern, exciting, spectacular and absolutely trendy Cyr Wheel!
Wheel Gymnastics and Cyr Wheel are always a sensation at high profile shows everywhere: fascinating, thrilling and unique!
And by the way: No, you do not get dizzy!
