This is the view of Little Tahoma from Steamboat Prow, at around 9700 feet on the flanks of Mount Rainier. Steamboat Prow is atop the Inter Glacier, and the Emmons stands in the foreground of this shot, between it and Little Tahoma.
The approach to Inter Glacier was snow covered for about half of its extent. Snow started around 5,000 feet, and became a slog around 5,500. One couldn't put on skis until around 6,300 or so because of impassable rocks or patches of dirt on the trail which would have made skinning a pain. As a result, I spent around 7 miles of trail trudging with my approach shoes, and then later ski boots as the snow got deeper.
A bit past Glacier Camp, I put on my skis and skinned to the top in around 4 hours. I summitted around 2:00pm and was back at my car around 5:30pm. Snow was good until around 8,000, then became mush and necessitated leaning back to prevent skis from being pulled every which way. The weather was amazing (and HOT at the top), and I was solo until around noon when I encountered another few people descending from Camp Schurman.
