As a golf teacher/philosopher, I always enjoy using Golf as a metaphor. One key concept in Golf is ALIGNMENT; basically, this means the golfer is ‘aiming’ correctly.

In Golf, unlike many other sports, the player is actually facing 90 degrees away from the target, so aim or alignment is easy to get wrong, and success in alignment is essential to effective performance.

Similarly, ALIGNMENT in life is essential; this correlates closely with the concept of ‘Perfect Self Expression’-when one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions are in Alignment. When a Golfer (or any other athlete) is mis-aligned, there is conflict in their execution. Success is possible in this case, but at the expense of conflict; in the mind, the body, or the emotions- or all three areas. Very often in life, I have witnessed in myself and others a lack of alignment-some level of discord between thought, feeling, and action. Success in this state is less likely and is unfulfilling and incomplete even if it is attained.

Operating from Alignment, or Perfect Self Expression is a common trait of truly effective and successful people. Great Athletes, Business People, Teachers, and Artists exhibit this trait. In this state of being and acting, there is no great success at a corresponding great cost in another area of life. No career at the expense of divorce, no championship at the expense of health, no icon that has no real friends. Performance in a state of alignment is exhilarating not arduous.

Alignment is itself the reward AND the result.
