Fashion

These adaptations of fashion art
are from four artists: Joe Eula
(1925–2004) was an American fashion
illustrator prominent in the 1960s and
70s. He was the Creative Director at
Halston for ten years.
Ty Wilson's illustrative artwork
portrays and captures a bygone era
when romance and elegance reigned.
His bold, minimal line drawings are
fun, romantic, and sophisticated.
His art creates a mood with as few
lines as possible. He has been on the
Board of Trustees at his alma mater,
The Maryland College of Art and
Design since 1989.
When Ty Wilson presented his
older brother's drawing of a blue bird
as his own in kindergarten, his teacher
was so impressed she asked him to
draw another as the class looked on.
Armed with a blue Crayola, Wilson
stared at a blank sheet of paper for
several long, silent minutes before
vowing two things: he would never
again lie, and he would learn to draw.
Fifteen years later, he began his
career with Hallmark Cards.
Moving to New York, his stylish
illustrations were a success in the
advertising and fashion worlds. His
work was used by Vogue, Harper's
Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Macy's and
Bloomingdales. He did posters for
His art is often made up of only
black and white, with just a splash of
color - red lips or a red rose. He says
that he is influenced by masters such
as Matisse, Picasso, Al Hirschfeld
and Andy Warhol.
Tobie Giddio started with teachers
the Fashion Institute of Technology
in New York. He studied both fine art
and drawing the fashion figures.
Mononymously known as Halston,
Roy Halston Frowick (1932–1990) rose
to international fame in the 1970s. His
minimalist, clean, and relaxed designs
were a new phenomenon in the mid-
1970s. He was frequently at Studio 54
with his close friends Liza Minnelli,
Bianca Jagger, artist Andy Warhol.
After he designed the pillbox hat
Jacqueline Kennedy wore to the 1961
inauguration, Halston opened a store
Madison Avenue and started a ready-
to-wear line.
My adapted images in this video are
set to Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz
recording of "Silent Pool".
